Our Voluntary Roles
At Peace Hospice Care we have a wide-range of voluntary roles across the organisation, fulfilled by over 400 Volunteers. From roles based in the Hospice building, to those who support us in our Shops and in our community, there is a role for everyone. Each of our Volunteers plays a vital role in supporting us, enabling us to do what we do. In celebration of this year’s Volunteers’ Week, we are sharing the huge contribution our Volunteers make, across Peace Hospice Care:
Administration voluntary roles

Facilities voluntary roles
Kitchen – supports our Chef with catering
Environmental – promoting environmental awareness across all functions of the Hospice
Facilities – handyman, pat testing, gardening volunteers
Receptionist – at main Reception
As I live alone, working at the Hospice on Wednesdays and Fridays breaks the week up and I have the pleasure of the company of other people – Shirley, Volunteer Gardener
Inpatient Unit voluntary roles
Receptionist – In our Inpatient Unit
Inpatient Unit Housekeeper – Handing out patient meals and hospitality to visitors and relatives
Nursing – support nursing and HCAs with personal care of patients
Inpatient Unit Wellbeing – providing emotional and befriending support and pet therapy
Outpatient Rehabilitation Groups voluntary roles
Exercise and breathing groups
Scar therapists
Clinic – greeting patients and supporting nurses to provide Hospice clinic appointments
Outpatient Wellbeing Groups voluntary roles
Yoga, Tai Chi, emotional, meditation and Qui Gong
Art and drama therapy – therapy through creative arts and drama activities
Mindcraft – Children’s bereavement volunteer group
Choir – organising singing groups and singing activities
Compassionate Neighbours – befriending and respite support in the community
Patient drivers – transport patients from home to and from the Hospice

Counselling Service voluntary roles
Counselling – providing counselling sessions
Bereavement – offering bereavement support
Clients were looking for support particularly over lockdown. For some people it was incredibly isolating and lonely and it may be that I am only person they speak to every week which shows how vital it is that we are able to support both in-person and virtually – Siobhan, Volunteer Trainee Counsellor

Gift Aid – registering Gift Aid
Retail Assistant – creating displays, serving customers, working on the till, steaming, preparing stock
eBay Sales – selling donated products online via eBay
eBay eCommerce – supporting the Hospice in increasing awareness of our eCommerce operations and maximising listing opportunities for sales
