When 88 year old Alan Glenister was admitted to the Inpatient Unit, his passion for WFC led to a very special phone call to his bedside.

To Alan's surprise, ringing him for a footie chat was the former Watford Football Club manager, and former England manager Graham Taylor.

'I've been a lifelong Watford Football Club fan,' said Alan. 'Watford were in the 3rd division when I started supporting them as a young lad.  At that time, they were struggling financially. A meeting had been called in the Town Hall and even though we were not wealthy, my dad, Reginald  contributed some money to help save the club.

'I would go to watch Watford with him and that love for Watford FC continued all my life. I've seen them go up and down and Graham Taylor has always been a star in my eyes.   He has done so much for WFC and he's wonderful.  Talking to him on the phone was very special.  He needn't have done that for me.  It meant everything. '

'Good luck to WFC this season. A town with a football team is so good for the area and what a football team brings is not simply measured in cash.'
