Stepping out on sizzling hot coals was a sure footed way for 46 determined firewalkers to raise more than £6,500 for Peace Hospice Care.

The daring dash at West Herts Sports & Social Club on Thursday not only generated a huge fundraising boost, but created an electric atmosphere, a crowd of supporters and an opportunity to experience some heat beneath the feet!

‘It really was a very team orientated motivational experience,’ said Peace Hospice Care Corporate Fundraising Manager Lisa Ricketts who organised the event.

‘We had around 200 spectators all cheering on the firewalkers. They did so well and achieved their goal of walking on fire and raising funds for Peace Hospice Care.  It was a wonderful night and I thank all the participants, the sponsors Clive Dodman from Kings Lodge Hotel and Hunters Bar at Hunton Bridge,  and to West Herts Sports & Social Club for providing free facilities and for Mark Eaton of 'In Time' for taking so many fantastic pictures of the walkers.

Entertainment from Kirsta Johnson and Gary Allen added a feel good atmosphere. For the participants, who came from near and far, it truly was a red hot night to remember.

Laureen Hemming, one of the many fire walkers stepped out to remember a work colleague who had recently died from cancer and received excellent hospice care.

‘She had borne her disease with great courage and humour and I felt walking on burning coals was a walk in the park by comparison, ‘said Laureen.

‘It  was brilliant! So a big thank you to the organisers for giving me the experience; thank you to all the people who work in the hospice movement and thank you to my sponsors.'
