Bereavement Support

Giving you time and space

If you have experienced a loss and are finding it hard to adjust, you may benefit from specialist bereavement counselling. Talking and sharing how you feel can be very helpful, and for many people it can be enough to have the support of family and friends. However, this support may not always be available, and so a bereavement counsellor can offer you the time and space to talk about your feelings, relationship with the person who has died, other changes in your life and thoughts about the future.

We have a team of fully qualified bereavement counsellors who volunteer their time here at Peace Hospice Care. They are available for eight free sessions of 1:1 individual counselling. Please contact Patient Services on 01923 330332 for more information and to request a self-referral form.

Our team of experienced (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) IAPT accredited counsellors are also here for you. You can be referred through your local GP. Just visit your GP and ask to be referred to the IAPT counselling service at Peace Hospice Care.

You can also access our weekly Meditation Group. It offers a space to learn mindfulness techniques and gives you a place of calm and quiet during your journey through bereavement. Our Talking Space Group can also provide support. It’s an informal afternoon group and you are invited to drop in for a chat, a cuppa and cake - we’re here to listen so please do pop in.

Bereavement workshops for children

During the year, we also run bereavement workshops for children aged 5-16 years. These are called ‘Mindcraft’ workshops and are informal peer-support groups for children and young people who have been bereaved, and their carer. Sessions offer a space for expression of feelings through creative activity and play, as part of a group.

We do not yet have a date for the next group of Mindcraft sessions, but as soon as we do, we will share the information on our website and across our social media platforms.

For further information about all these services, and more, please call 01923 330 330 and ask to speak to the Patient Services Team.
