  5. Built with Love: 25th: Heritage Exhibition

Our charity was established on 24th June 1991 and this year, Peace Hospice Care celebrates our 25th Anniversary.

Peace Hospice Care is a cornerstone of Watford's heritage created by the love, generosity and dedication of our community to care for local people.  Originally built by public subscription in 1925 as The Peace Memorial Hospital and dedicated to the memory of those killed in the First World War.  The hospital closed in 1985 and gradually fell into dereliction until in 1991; amid public outcry, the South West Herts Hospice appeal was launched.
Today, Peace Hospice Care offers Inpatient Care, a Hospice at Home service, a Day Service delivered through our Starlight Centre, a Herts Neighbours befriending service and also provides bereavement support.
In gratitude to our staff, large team of volunteers, and the support of our generous local community, our History Archive shares the building's historic legacy and the lives of people who have shaped our journey. This year, our anniversary celebrations include a host of events and giving opportunities.
Please support us in any way you can.

Support us

Please help to support our patients and their loved ones in 2016, our 25th anniversary year.

Our charity is a shining example of how powerful community spirit can be. Without your support, we simply wouldn't be able to care for our patients and their loved ones.

In 2016, we'll need your help more than ever, so we can care for the growing numbers of people who need us. You can take part in a special event or organise one of your own, give a special gift or a regular donation. You'll be helping to improve the quality of life for those who need us the most.

Look back at the story of Peace Hospice Care

To celebrate our 25th Anniversary year, Peace Hospice Care has developed a history archive.

This growing collection of images, oral histories, transcriptions and memorial items tells the history of the hospice building, Peace Memorial Hospital and Watford going back generations.

Explore our archive online and listen to life stories from the hospice told by the people who have lived and worked here.
